Back-to-school drive helps Arizona kids in need
The inevitable back-to-school bustle is around the corner as summer break dwindles to an end. Not all children have the opportunity to go school supply shopping with their family, but that doesn’t mean this school year can’t be a success!
The Arizona Republic and Valley Famous Dave’s locations have teamed up to help in Southwest Human Development’s Back to School Supply Drive.
“Every year, so many Arizona kids go back to school without the supplies they need,” said Ryan Narramore of Southwest Human Development. “With the support of the community and our partners, we hope to collect enough school supplies to provide more than 500 families with what they need for their children to enter school ready to learn.”
People are encouraged to donate new school supplies to help families and children in need through July 31.
Back-to-school items can be dropped off at the Republic Media building, 200 E. Van Buren Street, Phoenix; Southwest Human Development, 2850 N. 24th Street, Phoenix; or at any of the four Valley Famous Dave’s Restaurants: Chandler at 3250 W. Frye Rd.; Peoria at 16148 N. 83rd Ave., SanTan Village in Gilbert at 2206 E. Williams Field Rd. and Mesa Riverview at 1011 Dobson Rd.
As a special incentive during this school supply drive, anyone who not only donates supplies, but also a new, book-size backpack at one of the Valley Famous Dave’s locations, will receive a voucher for a free Georgia Chopped Pork sandwich. Limit one per person.
New school supplies needed include:
- Spiral notebooks
- Pencil boxes
- Glue sticks
- Box of pencils
- Box of pens
- Box of colored pencils
- Filler paper
- Box of crayons
- 1” binders
- Pocket folders
Items donated will ensure Arizona children receive the supplies need for a quality education.
