1920s Fashion: What to wear and where to get it

The Grand Prix of Scottsdale Gatsby Weekend benefitted Southwest Human Development. The event was last held in 2017, but you can still help Arizona children in need today. Your ticket to the Gatsby Lawn Party and Gatsby Under the Stars Gala is your time machine to the 1920s. But if you’re going to step back in time, you best be wearing the right shoes!

It’s easy to whip up an outfit poised to rival that of Jay Gatsby himself after collecting a few staple items from the roaring 20s.

For the ladies

Lavish jewels, pearls, sequins, fringe and feathers embody flapper style for the ladies. Women dressed elegantly in long or short sophisticated, sleeveless and light colored drop-waist gowns. Accessories are a must and range from long pearl necklaces, arm bangles, headbands, jewels and lace fans. A bold, red lip color with an accentuated cupids bow in combination with a smokey cat-eye finishes off the authentic flapper look.

For the men

Men of the 1920s sported well-fitted tuxedos, vests and double-breasted wool suits. Choosing a snug size is considered fashionable. While the color palette of men’s outfits was often brown, navy, striped and grey, some swanky fellas may opt to wear all-white Gatsby ensemble with an accent color. Tuxedos and suits, two-tone shoes, newsboy caps and fedoras are added bonuses that inspire the Roaring 20s men’s style.
