Creating a Positive Future for Young Children
The past decade has seen increasing national recognition of the importance of the first years of life, a time when the opportunity exists to truly make a difference and change the trajectory of a child’s life for the better.
Southwest Human Development takes advantage of this “window of opportunity” by focusing on a broad range of programs for young children and their families in the following areas:
Child Health & Welfare
Disabilities
Head Start
Training & Education
Arizona Institute for Early Childhood Development
Become a part of Southwest’s effort to create a positive future for young children. Here are a few examples of how you can help:
- Gently used children's books can be provided to children visiting Reach Out and Read clinics, helping to promote early literacy.
- $25 will allow a toy to be adapted for a toddler with cerebral palsy.
- $50 will provide a 6-month-old baby's first board book at approximately 10 well-child check-ups which includes a doctor's "prescription" for parents to read to their children, thereby developing early literacy skills.
- $100 will provide emergency assistance for a family who has exhausted all other resources and needs short-term help for food, education, or other family emergencies.
