Assistive Technology (AT) helps people with disabilities achieve success and inclusion in family, school, and community activities. AT provides technological solutions and support to enable children and individuals with disabilities to communicate, play, read, work, use the computer, operate home appliances, achieve mobility, and interact successfully with others.
In some cases, simple low-tech adaptations or adaptive equipment can make all the difference in the world: for example customizing a foam seating support for a toddler so that she can sit up and use her hands to play with toys. In other cases sophisticated speech recognition software can go on a laptop and allow a person to speak for himself.
Our AT team works to understand each person's current abilities and connect them with technology tools that give them access to their world.
Assistive technology can be very effective in helping young children, older students, and adults on the autism spectrum communicate.
Technology is fast-paced and constantly evolving and our Assistive Technology specialists are passionate about seeking innovative solutions for clients so that they can leverage these tools to their advantage.
The Assistive Technology Training and Resource Center is well-respected locally and nationally, and is on the cutting-edge of this rapidly changing field.
Our team regularly collaborates with families, teachers, therapy providers, and others to assure that you or your family member are able to participate and succeed at home, at school, at work, and in the community.
